About Wagering Terms

An independent reference for the language of gambling, written for people who want to understand what a term actually costs them.

Last reviewed

Wagering Terms is a plain-English glossary of betting, casino, poker, slots, bingo, lottery, scratch card, sweepstakes and fantasy sports terminology. It currently holds 250 entries across 15 categories, each one explained in a single line and then in full.

Why it exists

Almost every explanation of a gambling term online is published by somebody who profits from you placing a bet. Operator help pages describe their own rules in their own favour, and affiliate sites define terms as a pretext for a sign-up link. The result is a vocabulary that readers meet only at the moment it costs them money, usually in the small print of a bonus.

This site takes the opposite approach. A definition here tells you what the term means, how it is used in practice, and where it works against you. Where the maths matters, the maths is on the page: what a 35x wagering requirement actually asks for, what a 4% house edge does to a bankroll over a thousand spins, why a lottery is a worse bet than any table in a casino.

What this site is not

  • It is not a gambling operator. You cannot place a bet, deposit money or play a game here.
  • It does not review, rank or recommend operators, and it holds no affiliate relationships.
  • It is not advice. Nothing here is a tip, a system, or a suggestion that you should gamble.
  • It cannot tell you what is legal where you live. Gambling law is local and changes often.

If gambling has stopped being entertainment, the responsible gambling page lists free and confidential help by country. It is the one page here that matters more than any definition.

Who writes it

Every entry is written and reviewed by Abhinav Vasudevan. There is no anonymous content team: one named person is accountable for each definition, and the editorial policy sets out how entries are sourced, reviewed and corrected. Sources are restricted to regulators, safer gambling bodies, academic work and official game rules — never operator marketing or affiliate blogs.

How it is funded

The site carries no advertising, no affiliate links and no sponsored entries, and it is not paid for by any operator, supplier or affiliate network. It is funded by its publisher. If that ever changes, the change will be disclosed on this page and in the editorial policy before any paid placement appears, and any commercial link will be labelled where it sits.

Corrections and contact

Definitions get out of date: regulators change rules, operators change terms, and jargon drifts. If something here is wrong, incomplete or simply unclear, write to hey@organicgrowth.company and it will be looked at. Every term page shows the date it was last reviewed. Other ways to get in touch are on the contact page.

Age and jurisdiction

This site is written for adults and is not intended for anyone under 18. Some jurisdictions set the minimum gambling age at 21, and a few prohibit gambling outright. Check the law that applies to you before acting on anything you read here, and read the disclaimer for the limits of what this site claims.
