Editorial standards
Editorial policy
How definitions on this site are researched, sourced, reviewed and corrected, and the sources that are refused outright.
Last reviewed
Gambling is a "your money or your life" subject: a wrong definition can cost a reader real money. This page states the standards every entry is held to, so you can judge the glossary by them.
Who is accountable
Abhinav Vasudevan writes and reviews every entry and is the named editor responsible for the site's content. No entry is published without that editorial review. There is no ghost-written or syndicated content here, and no entry is supplied, sponsored or edited by an operator, supplier or affiliate network.
What counts as a source
Citations are restricted to five source types, enforced in the content schema rather than left to judgement. A claim that cannot be supported by one of them is either written without a citation or left out. An unsourced statement is better than a statement sourced to an affiliate blog.
| Source type | What qualifies |
|---|---|
| Regulator | Licensing bodies and statutory regulators: the UK Gambling Commission, the Malta Gaming Authority, state gaming boards, lottery commissions. |
| Safer gambling | Treatment and player-protection organisations: GambleAware, GamCare, the National Council on Problem Gambling, Gambling Therapy. |
| Academic | Peer-reviewed research and university work, used for anything about probability, game design or gambling behaviour. |
| Official rules | The published rulebook for a game or market: tote rules, poker tournament rules, sportsbook settlement rules, lottery prize structures. |
| Reference | Established reference works and standards bodies, used only where no regulator or academic source covers the point. |
Refused as sources, in every case:
- Operator marketing pages, promotions and bonus terms quoted as if they were neutral fact.
- Affiliate and comparison sites, including "best casino" and bonus-aggregator content.
- Tipster services, betting systems and anything selling a claimed edge.
- Forum posts, social media and AI-generated summaries of any of the above.
Where a source is cited, it is listed at the foot of the entry with its publisher and type, so you can check it yourself. Outbound links to sources carry no commercial arrangement of any kind.
How an entry is built
- Scope. One term per entry, defined as the industry actually uses it, including regional differences where they matter.
- Definition first. Every entry opens with a one-line answer a reader can act on, before any explanation.
- The mechanics. How the term works in practice, with the arithmetic worked through where money is involved.
- The cost. Where a term routinely works against players, the entry says so plainly rather than hedging.
- Review. Editorial review against the sourcing rules above, then publication with a review date.
Research and drafting use software tooling, including AI assistance. That does not lower the standard: nothing reaches the site unread, every factual claim is checked against a permitted source, and the named editor above is responsible for what is published either way.
Accuracy, dates and revisions
Every term page shows the date it was last reviewed, not the date it was first written. A review means the definition was re-read against current regulator guidance and market practice, and is either still correct or was changed. Entries are re-reviewed when a regulator changes the rules, when market practice shifts, or when a reader reports a problem.
Numbers are given as ranges where the real figure varies by operator or jurisdiction, because a falsely precise number is worse than an honest range. House edge and return-to-player figures are quoted for standard rule sets and are labelled as such.
Independence
The site carries no advertising, no affiliate links and no paid placements, and accepts no payment for inclusion, for a link, or for the wording of a definition. If commercial monetisation is ever introduced, it will be disclosed on this page and on the about page before it goes live, and any commercial link will be labelled where it appears. Editorial content will not be for sale.
Safer gambling commitments
- No entry encourages gambling, promotes a strategy as profitable, or presents gambling as a way to make money.
- Entries about bonuses explain their cost rather than their appeal.
- Content is written for adults only, never for under-18s, and carries no imagery or language aimed at children.
- Help resources are one click from every page, on the responsible gambling page.
Corrections
Mistakes are fixed rather than quietly removed. Report one to hey@organicgrowth.company with the page and what is wrong, and you can expect a reply. If a correction changes the substance of a definition, the entry's review date is updated when the fix ships. If a claim cannot be supported on re-checking, it comes off the page rather than being softened.
Complaints about this policy
If you believe an entry breaches these standards, write to the same address and say which standard and which page. Complaints about the policy itself go to the editor, who is the person named at the top of this page.
