Churn
Also known as Recycling, Customer Churn

In short
Churn has two meanings in gambling. For operators it is the rate at which customers stop playing. For players it describes the same money being wagered repeatedly, generating turnover far larger than the original deposit.
The word does double duty, and which meaning applies depends entirely on who is speaking.
Churn as money recycling
This is the sense that matters to players. Money wagered, partly won back, and wagered again is churning. A £100 deposit put through a slot at £1 a spin might generate £2,000 or more of turnover before it is exhausted.
The significance is that the house edge applies to every cycle. At 96% RTP, each pass through the game costs 4%, and twenty passes through the same money compounds toward near-certain depletion. This is the arithmetic behind the observation that a bankroll rarely survives long against even a small edge. It is not the size of the edge but the number of times it is applied.
It is also the mechanism that makes wagering requirements work. A 35x requirement is a demand for a specific amount of churn, and the expected cost of producing it usually exceeds the bonus.
Churn as customer attrition
The operator-side meaning is ordinary business vocabulary: the percentage of customers who stop playing in a given period. High churn drives heavy promotional spend, which is why reload bonuses and cashback are targeted at players who have gone quiet.
The two meanings connect. Customers who churn money quickly tend to deplete and leave, so retention teams watch both figures together.
Common questions
Why does my balance disappear faster than the house edge suggests?
Because the edge applies every time the money is staked, not once to your deposit. A £100 deposit put through a 96% RTP slot twenty times has an expected cost of around £80, even though a single pass would cost only £4.
Does churning money faster change my odds?
Not per bet. Every spin has the same probability regardless of speed. What changes is total turnover, and since the edge is charged per bet, faster play multiplies expected loss per hour without altering the odds of any individual spin.
