Come Bet

Also known as Come, Come Wager

In short

A come bet works exactly like a pass line bet but can be placed after a point is established, letting you have several numbers working at once. It carries the same 1.41% house edge and the same zero-edge odds option.

The come bet is the pass line bet, available mid-roll. Once a point has been established, the pass line is closed to new bets. The come bet exists so you can still get money working.

How it behaves

Place a come bet and the next roll acts as its personal come out:

  • 7 or 11 → wins immediately
  • 2, 3 or 12 → loses immediately
  • Any other number → becomes the come point for that bet specifically

Your chip is then moved to the box for that number. It wins if that number rolls again before a 7.

The house edge is 1.41%, identical to the pass line.

Multiple numbers working

The point of come bets is that you can accumulate them. With a pass line point of 6 and come bets that landed on 8 and 5, you have three numbers live simultaneously. Any of them repeating pays you.

You can also take odds on each come bet, at zero house edge, which is where the real value is. A player with a pass line bet and two come bets, all backed with maximum odds, is playing craps at a blended edge well under 0.5%.

The seven-out problem

The corresponding risk: a 7 wipes out every come bet with an established point at once.

This is the structural tension of the game. More numbers working means more ways to win on any given roll and a larger loss when the seven arrives. The expected value does not change, only the variance.

Note one exception: a come bet that has not yet been assigned a number wins on a 7. So when the seven-out comes, your newest come bet wins while all the older ones lose.

Don’t come

The mirror bet, working against the numbers in the same way don’t pass works against the point. Edge is 1.36%, marginally better, and again socially awkward at a crowded table.

How many to run

Most experienced players keep a pass line bet plus two come bets, all with odds. Beyond that you are increasing variance without improving the price, and a single seven costs more than it is worth.

Common questions

What is the difference between a come bet and a pass line bet?

Only timing. A come bet works exactly like a pass line bet but is placed after a point is established, letting you get more numbers working. The house edge is identical at 1.41%.

What happens to my come bets when a seven rolls?

Every come bet with an established number loses at once, which is the structural risk of accumulating them. One exception: a come bet that has not yet been assigned a number actually wins on a seven.
