Fixed Jackpot

Also known as Static Jackpot, Flat Jackpot

In short

A fixed jackpot is a top prize of a set amount, usually expressed as a multiple of stake, that does not grow over time. It is funded within the normal game maths rather than by a separate contribution.

A fixed jackpot pays a predetermined amount, 1,000x stake, 5,000x stake, or a set cash figure, and does not accumulate.

Why it is usually the better deal

Because there is no separate contribution, the entire advertised RTP is available through normal play.

Compare:

Fixed jackpot slot Progressive slot
Advertised RTP 96% 96%
Returned through play 96% 93%
Diverted to jackpot pool 0% 3%

For any player who does not win the progressive, which is essentially everyone, the fixed jackpot game returns meaningfully more.

The trade-off is that the ceiling is lower. A fixed jackpot pays thousands; a wide-area progressive can pay millions.

Stake-scaled versus absolute

Two conventions:

Multiple of stake. “1,000x jackpot” pays £1,000 on a £1 spin and £100 on a 10p spin. This scales proportionally and does not require a maximum bet.

Fixed cash amount. “£10,000 jackpot” pays the same regardless of stake, but almost always requires a maximum bet to qualify, which is where the equivalent trap lies.

The first is more common in modern online slots and is the more transparent of the two.

Multi-tier jackpots

Hold and win games popularised tiered fixed jackpots. Mini, Minor, Major, Grand, attached to feature milestones.

The lower tiers hit reasonably often and contribute real value to the game’s return. The Grand, usually requiring a fully filled grid, is rare enough to function like a progressive without the separate funding.

Versus max win

A max win figure is a cap on total payout from any source, including cascades and multipliers. A fixed jackpot is a specific prize for a specific outcome. A game can have both, and the jackpot is typically well below the max win ceiling.

Common questions

Is a fixed jackpot better than a progressive?

For almost everyone, yes. A fixed jackpot needs no separate funding, so the full advertised RTP reaches normal play. The trade-off is a much lower ceiling: thousands rather than millions.

What is a stake-scaled jackpot?

One expressed as a multiple, such as 1,000x, which pays proportionally to your bet and needs no maximum stake to qualify. Fixed cash amounts almost always do require a maximum bet, which is where the trap lies.
