In short
75-ball bingo is the American standard, played on a 5x5 grid with a free centre square. Games are won by completing a designated pattern rather than a full card.
75-ball is the North American game. Numbers 1 to 75 are drawn onto a square card.
The card
A 5×5 grid with 24 numbers and a free space in the centre, which counts as already marked.
The columns spell BINGO and each holds a fixed range:
| Column | Range |
|---|---|
| B | 1–15 |
| I | 16–30 |
| N | 31–45 (with free centre) |
| G | 46–60 |
| O | 61–75 |
So a called number of “B-7” tells you immediately which column to look at, which is why American bingo calls the letter as well as the number.
Patterns
The defining feature. Rather than always playing for a full card, each game specifies a pattern to complete:
- Single line, horizontal, vertical or diagonal
- Four corners
- Letter shapes: T, X, L, E
- Postage stamp: a 2×2 block in a corner
- Diamond, kite, arrow
- Blackout: the entire card, the biggest prize
The pattern is announced before the game and displayed on screen. Playing for a pattern you have misread is the most common error in the format.
Against 90-ball
| 75-ball | 90-ball | |
|---|---|---|
| Card | 5×5 grid, 24 numbers | 3×9 grid, 15 numbers |
| Prizes per game | One (usually) | Three |
| Variety | Pattern-based | Fixed structure |
| Pace | Faster | Slower, longer arc |
75-ball is more varied and resolves faster; 90-ball has a longer build with multiple chances to win in one game. The choice is a matter of preference rather than value. The operator’s cut determines the return either way.
Common questions
How does 75-ball bingo work?
You play a 5x5 grid with a free centre square, completing a named pattern rather than the whole card. Each column covers a fixed range, so B holds 1 to 15, I holds 16 to 30, and so on.
What is the difference between 75-ball and 90-ball bingo?
75-ball uses a square card and pattern-based wins, resolving faster with more variety. 90-ball uses a 3x9 ticket and plays for three prizes in one game. Neither offers better value, since the operator's cut decides that.
