Round Robin

Also known as Round Robin Bet, RR

By Reviewed Editorial policy

In short

A round robin breaks several selections into every possible smaller parlay, so you still win something if one leg fails. Three selections produce three two-leg parlays, each staked separately.

A round robin converts a group of selections into all their possible combinations, each placed as its own parlay. It is the American equivalent of the British full-cover bets like the Trixie and Yankee.

How it multiplies

Three selections as a round robin of two-leg parlays gives three bets: A+B, A+C, B+C.

At $10 per combination the total outlay is $30, not $10. This is the most common misunderstanding, the stake is per combination.

Selections 2-leg combos 3-leg combos Total bets (all sizes)
3 3 1 4
4 6 4 11
5 10 10 26
6 15 20 57

Most books let you choose which combination sizes to include.

What it actually buys

Protection against one leg failing. With a straight three-leg parlay, one loss means nothing. With a round robin of two-leg parlays, one loss still leaves one winning combination.

The cost is that the returns are much smaller when everything wins, because you staked three times as much to get there.

The honest assessment

Round robins do not improve expected value. They spread the same vigorish across more bets and since parlay margin compounds per leg, you are paying it repeatedly.

What they change is variance. You win smaller amounts more often and lose your full outlay less often. For someone who would otherwise bet a six-leg parlay, a round robin is a meaningful improvement in survival. For someone who would otherwise bet singles, it is strictly worse.

If the goal is genuinely to reduce variance, betting the selections as separate singles achieves it more cheaply, because singles carry the base margin rather than the compounded one.

Common questions

How much does a round robin cost?

The stake is per combination, not in total. Three selections as two-leg parlays produces three bets, so £10 each costs £30. Four selections produces six two-leg combinations, and the count rises quickly from there.

Does a round robin improve my odds?

No. It spreads the same compounded parlay margin across more bets, so expected value gets slightly worse rather than better. What it changes is variance: smaller wins more often, full losses less often.
