Ways to Win
Also known as 243 Ways, 1024 Ways, All Ways, Ways Pays

In short
Ways to win replaces fixed paylines with adjacency: any matching symbols on consecutive reels pay, wherever they land vertically. A 5x3 grid produces 243 ways, a 5x4 grid produces 1,024.
Ways to win removes the concept of a fixed path. If matching symbols appear on consecutive reels starting from the left, they pay, their vertical position is irrelevant.
Where the numbers come from
Multiply the number of symbol positions on each reel:
- 5×3 grid: 3 × 3 × 3 × 3 × 3 = 243 ways
- 5×4 grid: 4 × 4 × 4 × 4 × 4 = 1,024 ways
- 6×4 grid: 4⁶ = 4,096 ways
The headline figures are just that arithmetic. A “243 ways” game is a standard five-reel, three-row slot counted differently.
Cost
Unlike paylines, ways-to-win games charge a flat stake per spin rather than per line. You cannot reduce the number of ways; they are always all active.
This makes the bet simpler to understand, which is part of why the format spread.
What it changes
Ways-to-win games have noticeably higher hit frequency, you win something more often because there are far more qualifying combinations than a 25-line game offers.
Individual wins tend to be smaller to compensate. The RTP is set by the maths model and is not inherently different from a payline game; only the distribution of wins changes.
Multiplying ways
Some games expand the count mid-spin. Adding rows, or using symbol upgrades that increase positions per reel. Megaways takes this furthest, randomising reel height every spin to produce anywhere from 324 to 117,649 ways.
The marketing problem
“1,024 ways to win” sounds dramatically better than “25 paylines” and means nothing about value. Both are descriptions of how wins are counted, not of how much the game returns.
A 243-ways game at 94% RTP is worse value than a 10-payline game at 96.5%, regardless of how the ways are advertised. The figure to compare is RTP, in the game information panel.
Common questions
What does 243 ways to win mean?
Any matching symbols on consecutive reels pay, wherever they land vertically. The number is simply the symbol positions multiplied across reels, so a 5x3 grid gives 243 and a 5x4 grid gives 1,024.
Are ways-to-win slots better than payline slots?
Neither is inherently better value, since RTP is set by the maths model rather than by how wins are counted. Ways-to-win games hit more often with smaller individual wins, and charge a flat stake per spin.
